Oregon Alpha Pledges 40!

------------------------------------------------

That is not a typo.  40!  Oregon Alpha completed a most successful recruitment campaign this fall.  After pledging 31 last fall, the chapter built on last year’s success and pledged 40 on October 5th.  Formal pledging was held on the 6th following Monday night dinner.  Congratulations to rush chairmen Adam Aguilar ‘10 and Jeff Whitman ‘10 for managing a very successful recruitment process.

HOMECOMING, November 1st – Plan to Stop By Oregon Alpha 3-5pm

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2008 Homecoming The members of Oregon Alpha would like to invite you to a Homecoming Open House here at the SAE fraternity in Corvallis on Saturday, November 1st, prior to the OSU-Arizona State Homecoming football game.  The active members will be hosting an Open House for alumni and their family members.  The game time is set for 7:15pm.  The chapter house will be open from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.  Treats will be available from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.  The alumni would certainly like to encourage the reunion classes of 1958, 1968, 1978, 1988 and 1998 to attend and include the chapter in your planning.

Come share in the brotherhood.  Come see the new house improvements!  Please RSVP by hitting reply to this message.

OREGON ALPHA SENDS NINE MEMBERS TO LEADERSHIP SCHOOL

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Again this past summer, SAE held its 73rd John O. Moseley Leadership School on the Carnival cruise ship ‘Imagination.’  Nearly 700 SAEs (approximately 650 undergraduates, 50 alumni faculty and staff) set sail from Miami for three days of fraternity leadership training, plus an afternoon of fun in the Cozumel sun.  Delegates explored their leadership abilities, learned new skills, and interacted with undergraduates and alumni from around the realm.  Of course, Oregon Alpha was well represented.  NINE undergraduate brothers (the core leadership of the chapter) attended Leadership School.  Thank you alumni for your financial support which helps to pay for airfare.

On board, Oregon Alpha was recognized with a top fraternity honor, the “Chapter Achievement Award” which recognizes the top ten percent of the chapters in Sigma Alpha Epsilon based on the comprehensive fraternity criteria defined by the True Gentleman Initiative.  Congratulations to EA Jake Gudger for his leadership, and to the brothers of Oregon Alpha on this significant accomplishment.

Oregon Alpha is blessed to have an endowment that pays for the leadership school tuition expenses.

Tuition expenses (approximately $450 per attendee) to participate in Leadership School are provided by the Oregon Alpha Chapter Endowment Fund (now over $50,000).  You can help build this endowment.  Please consider making a tax deductible contribution to:

to support our chapter’s long term participation in the fraternity’s premier educational program.

HOUSE CORPORATION SUMMER INVESTMENTS

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Oregon Alpha House Corporation continues to invest each summer in 2929 NW Harrison.  Next fall, the “new” house will be 50 years old!

For anyone who has driven by the chapter house this past year, you know that the lawn and landscaping is well maintained.  Many in Corvallis comment that the corner of 29th and Harrison Blvd has never looked better.  Thank you to House Dad Stro for his expertise in lawns and commitment to keeping Oregon Alpha a source of pride for all alumni.  The chapter house looked terrific all summer long!

Under HC President Chris Langton’s leadership, over $60,000 was invested in keeping the house up-to-date and well maintained.  The dining room received a new ceiling, lighting, entry tile, and blinds.  Mitchell’s stove was completely rebuilt and tile replaced the linoleum in the kitchen.  The women’s bathroom in the front hall was completely gutted and modernized with all new fixtures, counters, lighting, and wall paper.  And just before the members returned to the chapter house in September, the heavy traffic area of the parking lot was overlaid, and the entire parking lot was sealed and striped.

These are all important investments to keep the chapter house in tip-top shape.  The funding came from the undergraduates rent payments ($48,000) and from your alumni contributions ($12,000).  Thank you alumni for your continued support!
