Recruitment
There's two ways recruitment works, formal and informal recruitment.
Formal recruitment includes meeting the members during the summer and hanging out and getting to know them. During the first week of fall term, the InterFraternity Council (IFC, part of OSU) hosts Rush Week, where you sign up with different houses to meet the guys and participate in 'mixers,' where you sign-up for different events with different houses, such as paintballing, car bashes, bridge jumping, poker night, swimming, mini-golfing, and boxing. At the end of the week, if a house has 'bid' you -- extended an invitation for you to join the house -- you select which house you would like to join and there is a 'jump' ceremony where you run down the stairs of the Memorial Union and jump into the arms of your selected house.
There is also a formal recruitment every spring term. If you didn't rush during the fall and this is a great opportunity to get involved.
Informal rush is not participating in Rush Week and just doing it on your own by hanging out with a house and if the house likes you, may extend a bid for you to join the house. Informal rush lasts year-round and is a great way for houses to gain new members outside of rush week.
During the summer we have a rush house where several of our members live and their job for the summer is to recruit new pledges, you can drop by anytime and hang out with the recruitment chairs and get to know the guys, many members will hangout at the rush house during the summer to get to know you, so stop on by.
